Learn More About the Painting Parties
The new Nebraska City Aquatic Center scheduled to open this summer will feature a colorful tile mural made of hundreds of ceramic tiles painted by local K-12 students. A project headed by the Nebraska City Fine Arts Committee, the “Celebrate Summer” tile mural will be installed in main entrance of the new facility.
The mural involves four separate 4×6-foot metal frames filled with more than 700 individually painted tiles. Kids will be invited to paint their favorite summer activity on a 4.25×4.25 inch tile. The completed tiles will be assembled and grouted into a large-scale mural, with the colors graduating from red to orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
The Fine Arts Committee will assist art instructor, Tina Dia, in guiding students through the tile painting process.
It is the goal of the Fine Arts Committee to give all local students an opportunity to paint a tile for the mural. In April, several groups of students will paint the first collection of tiles, which will fill the initial section of the mural in time for the Aquatic Center’s opening. Tiles for the remaining three sections of the mural will be completed during the next 12 months.
